David J. Ganshirt Obituary - 2024 (2024)

David John Ganshirt 73, of Santa Clarita California, formerly of Dubuque, IA passed away on Sunday, February 11th at 6:00pm surrounded by family. David, a devout Catholic, was born on August 21, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa.

His proud parents, John F. Ganshirt and Mary Ellen Ganshirt were married for 56 years and last resided in Dubuque, Iowa. He married the love of his life, Donna Marie Ganshirt (Bruno) on September 22, 1984. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, his four children: Denyelle Bruno & (Christy Kay-Bruno), of Los Angeles, California. Alicia Webber of Atlanta, Georgia, Daniel & (Debra) Ganshirt of Santa Clarita, California and Adam & (Tatania) Ganshirt of Santa Clarita, California. Grandchildren: Mason Ganshirt, Sofia Ganshirt, Mallory Ganshirt, Willa Bruno and Rocco Bruno. Siblings: Stephanie Chronis of New Jersey, Laura & (Joe) Pizzuto of Burr Ridge and Scott & (Michelle) Ganshirt of Dubuque, Iowa. As well as several nieces and nephews.

David graduated from Wahlert Catholic in 1968, where he played football, before joining the Navy as Water King for 4 years. He worked at the family business, Kaiser Paint, in Dubuque Iowa before moving to California to work in sales. He worked at Hilti Fastening Systems for 30 years, first as a salesman and later as regional manager. One of Dave’s great joys in life was selling. Always a hard worker, he started a paper route at a young age and once worked as a clown at Henry’s Hamburgers.

Dave was the definition of hospitality. Everyone was always welcome in his home, where most holidays were celebrated with the whole extended family. He was kind, generous and funny. Often known to enjoy a glass of cabernet, a good cigar and a Hawaiian shirt. He truly enjoyed relaxing and having fun with his family. David was an avid fan of football, especially his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes. He also loved playing golf and traveling. His favorite travel destination was Italy, and his favorite dish was pasta. While David was of Swiss-German descent, he fit right into his wife Donna’s Italian American family.

While David will be extremely missed, we’re grateful to know he’s safe in God’s embrace.
